FIRST LOOK: Porsche Vision 357 is a stunning tribute to the original 356 on its 75th Birthday
75 years ago, on 8 June 1948, the 356 No. 1 Roadster became the first automobile bearing the name Porsche to receive its general operating permit – the birth of the sports car brand.
Porsche, the luxury sports car manufacturer, will be celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2023. To commemorate this milestone, the company has created a new concept car, the Vision 357, which pays homage to the company’s first model, the 356.
The Style Porsche Team was responsible for reinterpreting the 356 for the modern era, creating a sleek and innovative design.
The Vision 357 is primarily a styling concept, and while the company has not revealed any details about the car’s powertrain, it is believed that it is built on the 718 Cayman GT4 RS technology platform, which would lend the car its naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six engine.
Porsche claims that the car would theoretically draw 493 horsepower. It also noted that it would design the mid-mounted powertrain to accommodate synthetic fuels, though it has not indicated that it has any plans to produce the car.
The Vision 357 will be on display at a special exhibit in Berlin celebrating 75 years of Porsche sports cars. The exhibition at Volkswagen Group’s Drive Forum will open on January 27th and run until mid-February.
The design study will be presented at the South by Southwest in Austin from 10 March 2023 and at further international events over the course of the year.
