With the RX-8 coming out next Wednesday, it’s time we actually discovered the Street Race version of its predecessor and see if Mia can really beat Kenji…and I think she might be able to.

Handling: the FD3S is definitely an all-rounder in every sense of the word. Not only can it drift like a dream, it’s a pretty balanced tuner when you start racing with it. It does have its letdowns though. It’s brakes aren’t all that potent, there is some oversteer at certain intervals when you try to push it, off the line, it’s rather slow due to excessive wheelspin, and engaging the nitrous only adds more wheelspin up until 4th gear. Despite all this, the steering feels firm and responsive, and despite the oversteer, the RX-7 can put down pretty good grip through corners making it somewhat competitive.
Conclusion: when put together against other classic JDMs in this game (R34 GT-R & Fairlady Z 432) as well as the other Mazda in this game, the MX-5, the RX-7 slots right in between them. In fact it’s only 4-tenths of a second slower than either the MX-5 or R34 (drifty as it is), and 2 seconds faster than the Fairlady Z. Following actual car logic, the RX-8 shouldn’t as fast as the RX-7, but knowing The Crew 2 car logic and fully upgraded cars in this game, it could be up there with the Evo X. Who knows?
