In January 2019 while traveling Japan, we rented an R34 GTR from a Tokyo based rental company. Road-tripping the GTR to Nikko in the Tochigi Prefecture, in the mountains north of Tokyo, we experienced the very ‘loose’ speed limits on the motorways.
After visiting the Nikko township and Shinto Shrine, we drove the winding mountain road to the Akechidaira Ropeway, a cable car that takes you to a view of the Kegon Falls and Mount Nantai.
Following the ropeway, we experienced an incredible tunnel run through the mountain and then the steep hairpin descent back to Nikko. Using some prepared maps we took an isolated back road on the return leg to tokyo, cascading through Japanese pine plantations and small farming communities.
This was an absolute bucket list item checked off. The perfect Japanese sports car on the perfect roads in Japan.
