Laguna Seca Raceway, comparison, 2006 BMW Z4 M Coupe vs 2017 Corvette C7 Grand Sport (w/ Z07)

2006 BMW Z4 M Coupe: KW Clubsport 2 way adjustable w/ remote reservoir, Federal RSR-R 245/40/18 squared, 0 heat cycles. Front -3.0º camber, 1/16th total toe-in. Rear -1.9º camber, 1/16th total toe-in

2017 Corvette C7 Grand Sport w Z07: Tires have had about 5 heat cycles. -2.0º camber all around, 1/16th toe-in all around, 8º caster front, 0º caster rear. Otherwise bone stock.

The lap-timer data on the BMW video is slightly out of sync, because lap timer doesn’t always fire the external camera correctly, so there’s about 1/10th of a second delay between the data and actual video. Part and parcel when dealing w/ Harry’s Lap Timer on an iPhone. Plus the PDR data from the C7 has the start/finish defined about 1 full second before hand so the lap times aren’t sync’ed up. It is hard to hit the “define start/finish line” button on the screen when you’re screaming down the front straight at 80mph +.

Anyway, I wanted to make this video because, well, it’s kinda fun to compare the two cars. I know, I know…1:52 in the BMW? 1:49 in the Corvette? Jesus this guy is as slow as molasses. No doubt, when I want to push the cars, on simulators I can do about a 1:45 on the BMW and 1:36 in the Corvette at Laguna when I leave little next to no margin on the table. But these are DEs and frankly, I don’t push the cars that far unless I am ready and comfortable with writing them off at any given time. So yeah. Consider these to be my about 7/10th speed. I know there’s a ton more speed to be had on the Corvette for sure, I struggled for grip all day long in turns 2, 4, 5, 9, and 10.
