Check out this sweet Honda NSX widebody in this tutorial on how to correct the soft black paint found on 1st and 2nd gen NSX cars. Paint correction on black paint is very difficult (how ever if you feel like you can’t finish a black car nicely on normal black paint, the other colors aren’t finishing nicely either you just can’t see the defects as well), but heres a mini tutorial and paint correction tips that may work for some people on the original black paint of the NSX or similar soft paint.
Compound and polish stick to this clear coat like crazy, you wipe off polish and scratch the finish, DOH! It sucks but i hope this video will help you guys out there detailing black paint or detailing high end cars with ridiculous paint. Rolls Royce and Bentley are also pretty soft as well.
I use Shine Supply Classic cut as my compound of choice for this car on a 5 inch meguiars microfiber cutting disc at speed 3 to cut for 2 passes, then it is followed by a 5 inch meguiars microfiber finishing pad with Shine Supply Classic polish and then WE SWITCH MACHINES, which i did not mention in the video, my rupes was creating too much vibration so we switched to a weaker machine, an old Griot Garage Boss 15mm polisher that i’ve had for years, Finally once more with a Griot Garage orange foam cutting pad with a small drop of classic polish to finish. It came out about 80% defect free. These cars are next to impossible for the inexperienced and even those of us with many years of paint correction under our belts struggle as well. You can do it though! Just set the expectations with the customer and remember this is a 30 year old car! Just make it look as good as you can without leaving haze behind and you’re golden.
